Yesterday I was honored during a Volunteer appreciation ceremony here on base. At the luncheon there was a local singer that sang three songs. Of the songs she sang, the following song reduced many of the people present to tears.
It has touched me and as many know, from a great many of my writings, I am proudly a soldier's wife.
I wish to share this song with you because it puts to words what so many military spouses feel. In today’s Military it is not just the men that go off to the different conflicts, it is the women as well.
A Soldier's Wife
by Roxie Dean
Breaking News from a desert town
Smoke and rubble on the ground
The names we do not know right now
And it cuts me like a knife
With a tearful goodbye kiss
I sent him off to this
But I've gotta stay strong for our kids
I'm a soldier's wife
I run the house
I sleep alone
I live for e-mails
And the phone calls home
I tell my children he will be all right
And I hope it's not a lie
I'm a soldier's wife
We do the things we used to do
Go to church, go to school
But you could drive a truck right through
The hole that's in our lives
My little boy shoots me a grin
And says he wants to be like him
And I feel my heart start caving in
I'm a soldier's wife
Sometimes I'm angry
Sometimes confused
I live and die by
The evening news
But I tell my babies he will be all right
And I hope it's not a lie
I'm a soldier's wife
I pray for strength
I pray for peace
I pray that he comes home to me
And if you would please pray for me
I'm a soldier's wife.
Recently I got to see the movie Meet the Robinsons again with Khornesone. This song has stuck with me since last nights viewing.
So when a song stays in my mind that tells me I need to learn it. Here we go folks, this is part of me learning this song. Here are the lyrics for you to enjoy.
Little Wonders by Rob Thomas
let it go,
let it roll right off your shoulder
don't you know
the hardest part is over
let it in,
let your clarity define you
in the end
we will only just remember how it feels
our lives are made
in these small hours
these little wonders,
these twists & turns of fate
time falls away,
but these small hours,
these small hours still remain
let it slide,
let your troubles fall behind you
let it shine
until you feel it all around you
and I don't mind
if it's me you need to turn to
we'll get by,
it's the heart that really matters in the end
our lives are made
in these small hours
these little wonders,
these twists & turns of fate
time falls away,
but these small hours,
these small hours still remain
all of my regret
will wash away some how
but I can not forget
the way I feel right now
in these small hours
these little wonders
these twists & turns of fate
these twists & turns of fate
time falls away but these small hours
these small hours, still remain,
still remain
these little wonders
these twists & turns of fate
time falls away
but these small hours
these little wonders still remain
An earth bound angel
by Denise R. Davio

Do you see her, right there beside you?
Do you feel her hand upon your elbow, guiding you a different way?
Can you hear her encouraging voice whispering into your ear?
No?
I can see her, her steps match yours.
Her angelic wings shelter you from that storm raging around you.
See her foot prints where she helped you along.
The dirt under her nails as she helps dig into the foundation of your life to lay stronger roots.
See the green shoots of her love and caring as she plants you within her garden of souls to nurture.
Hear her laughter and the song upon her lips, the words that she gifts to you in your time of need or thanks.
The touch of her helping hands upon your wounded pride as she gives you a lift up to a better place.
Do you see her, the earth bound angel?
She is one of many that are here, many that will help you when your paths cross.
She asks not for the glory that many would heap upon her gentle shoulders, instead she gives of herself without hesitation.
This is an earth bound angel, can you see her?
Can you hear her?
Can you touch her as she has touched you?
Thank you darling angel, placed here upon this earth to help others, we would be lost without you.
Precious earth bound angel, how your smile radiates upon your garden of compassion.
Fear not for I see you, I know of the good works that you do and I thank you from the bottom of my soul.
I see the beauty contained within an earth bound angel and I am richer for it, blessed if you will, for this friend.
